It is Ice Cream Time and the Sundaes on Monday Schedule for the year has now been set,  (Click to view schedule).  Note that a few dates are on Tuesday (highlighted in yellow) due to some parlors not being open on Mondays.   With some places still operating with limited staffing, changes to this schedule may still be required.  Please check here and the Club Calendar for updates or changes.   Also noted in the schedule is whether there is food service available and if there is inside seating.  For those without inside seating, please remember to bring your chairs.

Tour Old Port Washington Road Thur 5/26

Tour Leaders:  Mike & Lo Kerklo

Please join us as we explore the historic Old Port Washington Road (click for website).  Once an old buffalo trail, the roadway was used by farmers to transport their goods to the canal town of Port Washington for further destinations. The road was designated as ” Road # 20″ by the state of Ohio in 1832, thus making it the first official state road. As best we can, we will follow the Old Port road from its start in Millersburg with a stop in Charm and lunch later in the afternoon. As per tradition, we will have an ice cream stop on the way home. Hope to see you on the drive!

Starting time and location will be posted later.  Limited to 11 cars.  Note that sign-up will be available 60 days before the event. After that, please click to email Mike to sign up.

The Great Race Comes to Medina, Tue 6/21

The Great Race comes to Medina
Host:  Rich Velardo

On Tuesday, June 21, the Hemmings Motor News Great Race will be stopping in Medina for a lunch break, on its way from Warwick, RI to Fargo, ND. It would be fun to stop at the Uptown Park in Medina that afternoon to check out the cars. The plan is to meet for lunch at Thyme2 just off the square in Medina at 11:00. They use a city parking lot, so we can leave our Miatas parked there & enjoy the show that starts at approximately 12:30. We’ll limit this to 25 people & I’ll have a signup sheet at the May meeting for 10 of those slots. I’ll take 15 reservations via email.

“What’s the Great Race?”, you ask? This is a partial description taken from the race organizer’s announcement:
“The Great Race, which began 39 years ago, is not a speed race, but a time/speed/distance rally. The vehicles, each with a driver and navigator, are given precise instructions each day that detail every move down to the second. They are scored at secret checkpoints along the way and are penalized one second for each second either early or late. As in golf, the lowest score wins.

Cars start – and hopefully finish – one minute apart if all goes according to plan. The biggest part of the challenge other than staying on time and following the instructions is getting an old car to the finish line each day, organizers say. Each stop on the Great Race is free to the public and spectators will be able to visit with the participants and to look at the cars for several hours. It is common for kids to climb in the cars for a first-hand look.

Cars built in 1974 and earlier are eligible, with most entries having been manufactured before World War II. In the 2019 Great Race a 1916 Hudson won the event from Riverside, Calif., to Tacoma, Wash. The 2022 winners will again receive $50,000 of the $150,000 total purse. A 1916 Hudson Pikes Peak Hillclimber, a 1917 American LaFrance and a 1917 Peerless racer are the oldest cars scheduled to be in the 2021 Great Race from San Antonio, Texas, to Greenville, S.C.”
