Everyone is welcome at these events but please notify the designated Hosts by the stated RSVP Deadline.  Especially important, please let the Hosts know as soon as possible if you must cancel. Since our dinners often have 40 people, the restaurants often bring in additional staff – so we must give an accurate count.

Tour Mansfield Reformatory / Ohio Caverns Sat – Sun 8/24-25/2019

This is a weekend tour of the Mansfield Reformatory and the Ohio Caverns with an overnight stay in Marysville, OH.

The Reformatory (click for website)  was built in 1834 and housed prisoners until 1990. It is noted for its German architecture, its infamous haunted history and filming location of the movie, ” Shawshank Redemption”. The Ohio Caverns, discovered by locals in 1887, is known as “America’s most colorful caverns” and one of Ohio’s outstanding natural attractions (click for website).  There will be special group rates for the Reformatory and Caverns as well as the motel.  Specific details will be given to those confirmed tour participants.  This tour is limited to 14 cars and please signup by 7/20.  To sign up please email either Mike & Lois or Gary & Char or sign up at the meeting.

Sundaes on Mondays 2019

Yes it is time for Ice Cream.   Doug and Carol Leavens have put together another season’s worth of ice cream events in interesting places.   No reservation are required — show up and enjoy being with fellow lovers of Miatas and ice cream.   Each of these events is included in the Club Calendar and you can get the complete list by clicking the following link for a Printable pdf.

Wed nite Cruz at Johnny’s Dinner

This is a cruise – in at Johnny’s Diner at180 West Streetsboro St., Hudson, OH (it is located in the ACME Plaza  in Hudson).  See lots of interesting cars and eat some good diner food – 10% cruiser discount!.  Held every Wednesday evening weather permitting until late fall.  Please check the club’s Facebook page for current details.

Sip & Zip NEO Wine Tour May 23 – 24, 2019

This will be an overnight trip on Thur 5/23 – Fri 5/24,  to the Northeast Ohio wine region with lodging at the Geneva-On-the-Lake State Lodge (click for website)  There will be a raffle selection for spots to participate.

Who:  If you enjoy wines created in a California/Oregon style, yes.   If you prefer wines from the Niagara grape, probably not.

What: We will be visiting three wineries after our backroads cruise to the northeast Ohio wine region.   Lunch is planned, an afternoon happy hour is arranged, and dinner will be at Ferrante on Thursday evening.   Friday morning there are two activity options.  One is zip lining at Erie Canopy Tours adjacent to the property where we are staying OR doing a self-guided tour to see barn quilts in the area.   Lunch is arranged at Debonne Vineyard.

Participation:  There are spaces for 8 cars   To allow for as many members as possible to have a chance to participate, there will be a lottery.  The drawing will be held at the February 21st regular club meeting.   Members were able to enter the lottery at the January planning meeting and at the regular January meeting.  Members may also enter the lottery at the regular February meeting prior to the drawing.

Das Schnitzel Haus is an unpretentious German restaurant that is family owned. It has become a favorite of the Miata Club and is located at 5728 Pearl Road, Parma, OH. Phone: 440-886-5050 (click for directions).   We will be seated in the biergarten – a covered, outdoor beer garden with a fireplace – so we have no limit. German Heritage Tour – Tue 6/11/19

A scenic trip into Pennsylvania to visit a state park, enjoy some great Miata roads, then on to a transportation museum with a late lunch at a German Restaurant. The senior entry fee to the museum is $5.00/ea.

We will be departing from Michael’s Place restaurant at 12841 State, Rd, North Royalton Ohio (click for map).  Departure time is 11:30 AM sharp and the tour will last 3 hours, arriving at the picnic at 2:30 PM.

Please let us know if you would like to join us for the tour (click to email).   When signing up for this tour please let Bob and Betty Belding know you are coming (see website post for the picnic).   We will be using Channel 5 on the radios.

Also, there be small brunch before the tour.   Please join us if you can but let us know when you sign up so we can advise the restaurant.

Bob & Betty invite club members to the former Firestone Homestead, birthplace of Harvey S. Firestone, in northern Columbiana County for the 15th annual Northcoast Miata Club Picnic.

The picnic will be at the Belding Homestead at 45459 State Route 14, Columbiana, Ohio 44408 (click for map).  Our home is located one-half mile east of the State Route 7 and State Route 14 intersection on the south side of State Route 14, directly across from the entrance to the Links at Firestone Farms GC.  Our house is the first house on the right after you pass the traffic light going eastbound.  Look for the sign.  Everyone is welcome!  Bob’s cell # is 330.853.6658 if you get lost.

There are some neat Miata Roads to travel if you wish a leisurely drive to the picnic   Also, Doug and Carol Leavens are planning a group to convoy to the picnic – details will be posted later.

Arrive any time after 2:30 PM, bring your favorite dish to share along with copies of your recipes (unless they are secret), your favorite beverage and enjoy the afternoon.  The club is furnishing hamburgers, kielbasa, soft drinks, water, table service, plates and cups. We will eat the main feast at 5:00 PM and appetizers as you wish.

THIS IS HOW THE PROCESS WORKS:  As you arrive, bring your goodies to the house and then park along the road to show non-Miata people what they are missing by not owning a Miata.

Start 9:30 AM at Marie’s restaurant / Wal-Mart on ST 94 just north of Wadsworth & I-76 (click for directions).   Lunch will be at 11:45 AM and we will arrive at Gardens at 1:00 PM.   Check out their website . There is no cost for the garden, however there may be a $5 per car charge. There are no dedicated walkways, you’ll be on grass mostly, wear comfortable shoes, explore at your leisure. The gardens close at 4 pm.

Tour Old Port Washington Road, Thurs. 6/27/19

Please join us as we explore the historic Old Port Washington Road (click for website). Once an old buffalo trail, the roadway was used by farmers to transport their goods to the canal town of Port Washington for further destinations. The road was designated as ” Road # 20″ by the state of Ohio in 1832, thus making it the first official state road. As best we can, we will follow the Old Port road from its start in Millersburg with a stop in Charm and lunch later in the afternoon. As per tradition we will have an ice cream stop on the way home. Hope to see you on the drive!

This will be a  leisure drive with maybe 2 stops along the way to a late afternoon Lunch/Dinner at an Amish Restaurant to be determined.
