This page has Posts about upcoming Club Events including Around the World Dinners (AWD), Tours, Social Events and other items of interest to members. Everyone is welcome at these events but please notify the designated Hosts by the stated RSVP Deadline. Especially important, please let the Hosts know as soon as possible if you subsequently have to cancel. Since our dinners often have 40 people, the restaurants have to plan for that extra demand by bringing in additional staff – so we must give an accurate count.

Tour Leaders: Bill & Rancie Titley
It is time for the 18th annual spring trip to the Gap! This year’s trip will be May 13 through the 18th and returning on the 19th. We will be staying at the same motel as in previous years. One new drive is planned for this year.
We have a different drive and or destination every day. You can come and go, for whatever days that work for your schedule. We have great drives on the fantastic Smoky Mountain roads every day. We drive the “Tail of the Dragon” every day (via sunrise runs or a daily run worked into the schedule), which equals 318 curves in an 11 mile stretch of 2 lane nirvana! Other drives include the “Foothills Parkway”, the “Cherahola Skyway”, the “Devil’s Triangle”, and other local notorious “twisty” roads. We drive a lot, and eat too much, and have great fellowship with other Miata wacko’s! Each day is your choice of what to do and or where to go. You can stay with the group or venture off and explore on your own. Some people even take a day off to go on a personal side trip (Biltmore Estate, Dollywood, Cades Cove, Gatlinburg, etc.).
We will be staying at the Highland Manor Inn in Townsend, TN. Call (800) 213-9462 or e-mail at www.highlandmanor.com. This year’s rates are $75/night for 5 or more nights and $85/night for 3-4 nights and $100 for 1 or 2 nights. Be sure to tell them you are with the Miata group to get the special rates. Rancie & I will be arriving around noon on Sunday, May 13th to begin the fun.
Call Bill Titley at (386) 478-1233 or (740) 269-1723 for questions. Don’t miss out on all the great fun! Zoom! Zomm!
Hosts: Charlie and Marlene Rodgers
Join us for a lively discussion about the book, A Gentleman in Moscow, by Amor Towles.
The meeting will be held at Charlie and Marlene Rodgers’ home at 11812 Edgerton Rd, North Royalton on Friday, May 25th at 6:30 PM. Jim and Joyce Simmelink are assisting in this Book Club function. Refreshments will be shared to set the mood of the story…the tumultuous decades in Russian history after World War I.
To reserve a spot in this informal book discussion Please contact Charlie and Marlene by email or phone: 440-539-0998.
Copies of the book, CD book or e-book may be obtained through the Cuyahoga County Public Library. Here is a glimpse of Towles’ portraiture of a society on the cusp of radical change. “A Gentleman in Moscow immerses us in an elegantly drawn era with the story of Count Alexander Rostov. When, in 1922, he is deemed an unrepentant aristocrat by a Bolshevik tribunal, the count is sentenced to house arrest in the Metropol, a grand hotel across the street from the Kremlin. Rostov, an indomitable man of erudition and wit, has never worked a day in his life, and must now live in an attic room while some of the most tumultuous decades in Russian history are unfolding outside the hotel’s doors.”
While this is not a club sponsored event, several members have participated in the past and say it is a great drive.
Eric’s Riverrun is a ~240 mile, all-day driving tour using some of Ohio’s most interesting and challenging roads. This year we’ll go southwest on SR 41 through West Union, crossing the river at Maysville, then to Augusta on the river, lunch options in Maysville at Chandlers, Caproni’s, or in Augusta. After the ferry crossing at Augusta, we’ll head up to Georgetown, boyhood home of US. Grant. Then we will head north, returning to Mt. Sterling.
Cars leave Bob Evans at I-71 and Stringtown Rd. in Grove City between 8 and 9 am. We should be at the Ohio River around Noon and finish by 6 pm., depending on the time spent sightseeing. There is no fixed schedule nor any assigned speeds, other than posted speed limits. This is a tour rather than a rally. The route includes a mix of open and flowing paved roads that connect tight and twisty sections.
The North American MGB Register, the Buckeye Miata Club, and the Central Ohio British Car Club Council invite all driving enthusiasts, regardless of vehicle make, model, or type, to join us on Eric’s Riverrun 2018. Check out the roads at: http://tinyurl.com/Riverrun18
For more details and to reserve your spot email Michael Cooper . There is a $20 entry fee to cover organizational expenses. Eric’s Riverrun 2018 Magnets are included in the entry fee while they last. The ferry from Augusta to Higgensport charges $5/car.
All profit will be donated in Eric Jones’ memory to The James Cancer Hospital for Mesothelioma Research Fund.

Remember the fabulous 50’s when you picked up your girl, cruised down to the local “drive-in” restaurant, complete with “car hops” and curb service. You enjoyed cheeseburgers and fries and maybe shared a malt with two straws. After checking out the other “rides” on the lot, you cruised up and down the main street, took a drive and ended up at, of course, the local “drive-in” movie theater. There, you’d catch a double feature, and if love was in the air, maybe you got lucky in the back seat! This tour gives you the opportunity to re-live those “glory days” and enjoy all your fondest memories, minus the backseat! Pictures from the last Drive-in Tour:
Join us Saturday, June 16th, for the “Fabulous 50’s II Drive-in Tour”. We will meet at a drive-in restaurant for dinner. After enjoying the curb-side menu, we’ll cruise to a drive-in theater and enjoy a double feature, under the night sky with the tops down. Details are still being worked out, as to which drive-in establishments we will be patronizing and we will notify everyone who has signed up later on, as things become finalized.
We’re planning to be able to “tail-gate” for a while, prior to the start of the movie, but again details will be forth coming at a later date. To make the evening more authentic, all participants will be required to dress in 1950’s period clothing. Girls, dig out those poodle skirts or pedal pushers and your favorite tight sweater. Guys, jeans, white t-shirt, leather jacket, letter sweater or your “Ritchie Cunningham” nerd look, which ever was your style. Costumes will be judged and prizes awarded for the best dressed couples. Games and or 1950’s trivia tests are in the works as well. Fender skirts, fuzzy dice and side pipes, etc., are optional, should you want to customize your ride.
This tour will be limited to the first 24 “hot rods” to sign-up. E-mail Scott by May 26th to sign up. We look forward to hearing from you “cats & dolls” and hope you’ll join us for this cruise down memory lane.
